Description
The author of over 25+ non-fiction and fiction titles is seeking a skilled, creative, and reliable book designer/formatter to join an ongoing publishing workflow. The ideal candidate will help complete 5 to 10 book projects per month, ensuring each title meets professional publishing standards and stands out in the market.
This role involves designing and formatting the interior layout and covers for both print and digital editions (primarily for Amazon KDP, with possible expansion to other platforms). You’ll be expected to combine technical precision with artistic flair, creating books that are visually appealing, reader-friendly, and aligned with the author’s brand and audience.
The ideal person is:
- Eager to learn and grow within the publishing process
- Detail-oriented with an eye for typography, layout, and balance
- Comfortable with design software (such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, or Affinity Publisher)
- Familiar with Amazon KDP formatting requirements, or able to learn quickly
- Passionate about book design and understands what makes a book market-ready

Responsibilities
- Design and format the interior pages of print and digital books (including eBooks and paperbacks) to meet publishing standards across platforms like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and others.
- Ensure all design elements meet printing specifications and upload requirements for various publishing platforms.
- Provide final deliverables in all required formats (PDF, EPUB, MOBI, etc.), ensuring error-free, publication-ready files that meet deadlines.
- Deliver polished, reader-friendly layouts that enhance readability and reflect the tone and genre of each project.
Requirements
- Experience and Technical Skills Proven experience in book design, layout, or formatting, preferably for both print and eBook editions. Proficiency in design and publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, or Affinity Publisher. Understanding of Amazon KDP or similar self-publishing platforms (IngramSpark, Lulu, etc.) — or the ability to learn these quickly. Strong attention to detail with excellent understanding of typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy.
- Creative and Aesthetic Ability Demonstrated ability to design visually appealing, genre-appropriate book covers and interior layouts. A good sense of color, composition, and branding consistency across multiple titles. Ability to adapt styles for different genres — from educational nonfiction to fiction and children’s books. Passion for storytelling through visual design, ensuring the look of each book complements its message and tone.
- Professionalism and Project Management Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle 5–10 projects per month. Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working directly with the author and publishing team. A willingness to learn, take feedback, and improve continuously in a fast-paced, creative publishing environment. Reliable, deadline-driven, and committed to maintaining high-quality design standards across all projects.
